Manica Architecture

This past summer I worked as an intern for David Manica at Manica Architecture. I spent the summer participating in various projects around the world. Most of the work I did required the use of tools such as Sketchup, AutoCAD, and 3DsMAX. I worked on multiple projects over the summer ranging from competition entries to working drawings. The lessons and experience I gained from this internship have helped me understand what it takes to compete in the architecture community.

I have been given permission to share three of the projects that I was involved with at Manica Architecture. Some of the projects I worked on have not been made public yet, therefore, I cannot share them.

NW Arkansas Entertainment Center

This project design was created as a idea of the kind of environment the city of Rodgers, Arkansas could have with a new entertainment center. I worked on every part of this project; initial concept, masterplan, model building, image rendering, and presentation graphics. This project was finished in a very short time, and because of this I was able to work on things such as time-management, teamwork, and productivity.

Shantou Sport/Meeting Facility

During the time I spent at Manica Architecture, this was their largest project running. They were already in the second stage of Design Development when I began working. I would say I spent the majority of my summer working on this project. All of the jobs on this project were shared. Myself and the other intern had our hands in just about every aspect of the project; plans and sections, full detail sketchup model with site, material research, roof garden plan and design, renderings, and presentation images.

 Worker's Stadium in Beijing

The first project I worked on as an intern was a proposed renovation to one of China's most treasured stadiums, Worker's Stadium in Beijing. We were asked to create a masterplan for the surrounding blocks as well as renovate the stadium according to FIFA standards, which we met by creating a single rake of seats rather than the two levels currently existing, thus bringing the seats closer to the pitch, box suites, and covering over the seating to protect from the elements. Like the Shantou project, roles for this were shared throughout. My work focused mostly on the stadium by building a full detail sketchup model, redesigning the seating, and helping with the design of the canopy witch covers the seats as well as created a covered concourse on the outside of the stadium. I also was involved in site design, rendering, and presentation images.
